Simon Cowell was born on the 7th October 1959 in Brighton, East Sussex, England. He was then brought up in Elstree, Hertfordshire by his father Eric Philip Cowell and mother Julie Brett (nee Josie Dalglish). His father was an estate agent developer and music industry executive, and his mother is a former ballet dancer and socialite.

Simon has three brothers, Michael, John (who is a millionaire business development and marketing consultant), and Tony (who is co-author of Simon’s autobiography). He also has a half-sister, June (who lives in Majorca, Spain with her Spanish daughters), and younger brother Nicholas Cowell who is now a millionaire property magnate.

Simon attended Dover College, but left before he began the sixth form. He went on to undertake basic jobs, but found that he did not get along well with co-workers and bosses. This was until his father, who happened to be the executive of EMI Music Publishing, got him a job in the mail room.

The Simon Cowell biography interestingly informs us of the fact that he is an English artist-and-repertoire (A&R) executive and television personality/producer, who is well known as a judge on TV shows such as Pop Idol, The X Factor, American Idol and Britain's Got Talent. Simon is also the owner of the television production and music publishing house Syco.

After working as the assistant to an A&R man, Simon worked his way up and received a promotion to a music publishing position. Simon then left this position during the early 1980s to form E&S Music which was an independent music publishing company. However, this business folded within a year of its launch.

Simon then went on to work for Iain Burton, manager of choreographer Arlene Phillips, co-founder of dance group Hot Gossip and budding independent record label Fanfare Records one year later. Simon continued to work with Iain Burton at fanfare for the next eight years, whereby he achieved his first real success in the music industry, when he became a partner and building fanfare into a highly successful indie pop label.

Fanfare had numerous top ten hits with various Pop artists, Sinitta being one of them with "So Macho". Simon now being godfather to Sinitta's baby. The Simon Cowell biography then goes on to state that, in 1984 Simon Cowell and Iain Burton met up with Peter Waterman, the founding member of the Stock Aitken & Waterman songwriting and record producing trio. Pete Waterman assisted Fanfare during the second half of the 1980s by producing several smash hits.

In 1989, Fanfare's parent company a Public Company got into difficulties, which forced Fanfare into the hands of BMG. Simon then signed up a number of acts to S-Records that went on to make a mark in the pop music world. Some of these acts included:

Curiosity Killed the Cat

Five

Robson & Jerome

Sonia Evans

Ultimate Kaos.

Westlife

Simon then set up another label in 2002 by the name of Syco Records, which later became part of Columbia Records and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Contestants from The X Factor and America's Got Talent are released on Syco.

The Simon Cowell biography states that he began dating longtime friend Terri Seymour in late 2002. Simon Cowell girlfriend Terri, is a British television presenter of an English and West Indian decent. She was raised by her English mother and never knew her father. Terri first found success as a commercial model appearing in catalogues and commercials. However, she first came into the public eye when she became co-host of a British television program by the name of Wheel of Fortune from 2000 to 2001.

In 2006, a British newspaper, News of the World reported that Simon Cowell had cheated on Terri Seymour with model and socialite Jasmine Lennard. Photographs of her leaving Simon's home were printed. Terri Seymour was in the US at the time when the story broke, and photos of the visibly furious Terri Seymour being met by Simon Cowell at the airport were later published in Heat magazine. He fully supports children from The Association of Children's Hospices and invites them backstage to the screenings of The X Factor. He stops by at hospices, when he has the time, and visits the children. He also greatly supports animal rights.
